MOBILE COMMERCE

mCommerce has to be an integral part of a retailer’s strategy. Recent research by Martec, in association with BT Expedite, revealed that 16% of leading UK retailers are using it already (compared to just 5% last year) with a further 12% planning to add this channel over the next year. Kiosks are also growing in popularity, with 10% of retailers using them, and 9% planning to implement them.
Increasingly sophisticated technology is becoming more and more readily available to consumers, with iPhones, smart phones and iPads common place. The technology that customers carry in their pockets and bags is often more advanced than the equipment found in stores. Shoppers now expect mCommerce to be available as another way to shop, and retailers who don’t add mCommerce as a sales channel risk losing out on sales.
With the huge raft of opportunities available for retailers to boost the customer experience (and sales) using mCommerce, from QR codes, to eCoupons, to mobile payments, you can’t afford not to visit Retail Business Technology Expo and Cards & Payments to find out all there is to know about mCommerce. With an estimated 91% of UK customers using a mobile device for shopping, either researching or purchasing a product, this is an area that’s set to grow and grow.
Here’s why you need to visit:
• 91% of UK consumers have used their mobile device for commerce*
• 82% of UK respondents access the mobile web on a daily basis*
• According to research by Ogilvy, 77% of retailers use their mobile device to scan a barcode while shopping
• 85% of consumers in the US searched Google for product information via their mobile device whilst in store (Ogilvy)
• Mobile payments are predicted to grow 40 percent and reach 2.5 billion users globally by 2015, according to a recent report from Juniper Research.
• The dollar volume of transactions made via mobile will also continue to grow and is expected to exceed $1 trillion by 2015, according to a new study by Yankee Group.
